- MISS Week 8 at DEN: FG from 54Up 24–21 with 2:36 left, a 54-yarder in the rain to make it a six-point game. Wide right, his fifth miss from 50+ this season. Denver took over at its own 44 and led 35 seconds later. Three missed points, four-point margin: the math says he didn't lose it. The field position says ask Jonah Coleman.
- MISS Week 7 at SEA: FG from 45Down 13–3 with 8:38 left, a 45-yarder that would have made it a one-score game. Wide right. The offense managed three points all day, so he wasn't the main problem. He wasn't the answer either.
- MISS Week 7 at SEA: FG from 58Short from 58 as the first half expired, down 10–0. That's a long kick, so call it a freebie. It's also his fourth miss from 50+ this season.
- MISS Week 6 vs LAC: FG from 52Wide right from 52, same game as the missed PAT. Four points left on the field in a 16-point win. The defense held the Chargers to six, so nobody noticed.
- MISS Week 6 vs LAC: PATAn extra point, wide left, in the first quarter. The one kick that's supposed to be a formality.
- MISS Week 3 at MIA: FG from 50Up 14 with under a minute left, nothing at stake, and still wide left. Even the garbage-time kicks aren't automatic.
- MISS Week 2 vs IND: FG from 51 Forced OTA 51-yard miss, the game tied after regulation, and a win in overtime. The Chiefs survived; the reputation got a little dent.

The offense picks the distance.
Kickers don't choose their attempts; offenses do. Butker's offense is one that parks the ball in chip-shot range. His average attempt is among the shortest in the league, with more kicks from under 30 and fewer from 40–49, the range where kickers actually separate.
That isn't his fault. But it isn't his résumé either.
Paid like the best. Hasn't ranked like it.
In August 2024 the Chiefs gave Butker a four-year extension, and by 2026 his cap hit is the biggest of any kicker on Over the Cap's list. Line it up next to where he actually ranked in field goals over expected and the price starts to look like it's paying for the reputation.
